若說艾略特的《荒原》是二十世紀最觸目的英語現代詩，或許並不為過。這次講座邀請你一起展開《荒原》的旅程，前中大通識教育副主任趙茱莉聯同男中音胡永正將為你導航。由艾略特的生平、《荒原》的時代與文化背景開始，我們將細聽詩作的音聲、變奏與律動，思索詩中關於衰敗與重生的主題。是次講座的期盼，是讓你拓濶賞析這經典詩作的空間，並為深入觀賞今屆2025香港藝術節中同名的演出作好準備。
Join us for a journey into T.S. Eliot’s poem The Waste Land, one of the 20th century’s most significant literary works, led by Julie Chiu, former Associate Director of University General Education of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and baritone Caleb Woo. Starting off with a quick look at the poet and his historical, cultural backdrop, you will experience the variations of sound, rhyme and rhythm of the poem while reflecting on its themes of decay and rebirth. The talk aims to open up more space for appreciating this masterpiece while also preparing you for a deeper connection with the stage performance of the same name in the upcoming 2025 Hong Kong Arts Festival.
