In the 1920s, Kuo Wu-Long—one of the famed “Three Immortals of Dadaocheng”—purchased a red-brick Western-style townhouse on the bustling midsection of Dihua Street to establish a thriving wholesale business in grains and specialty goods. In 1933, he constructed a three-story residence behind the storefront as his private family home.

In 2016, Neo Chu, founder of the AKA Group, discovered this historic gem. With a background in architecture and a refined taste in antique furniture, he meticulously revived the home’s century-old splendor. Initially serving as a private salon, the space opened to the public four years later as AKA Café—a serene, reservation-only venue offering afternoon tea, a curated bar experience, and private event rentals. Embracing the brand’s signature “Stillness Philosophy”, it fosters a dialogue between past and present, beyond the confines of time. Its unique ambiance has made it a favorite among international travelers, filmmakers, and luxury brands alike.

Holes on the iron window frames of the second and third floors reveal traces of wartime metal requisition during the Japanese colonial period, silent witnesses to an era of scarcity.

The grand third-floor parlor boasts an East-meets-West aesthetic: Western wooden doors, hand-carved Chinese landscapes and bird motifs, calligraphy dated “Gui-you” (1933), and antique European furnishings that together create a striking colonial-era fusion.
